Can I add something too?

As well as all the great tips that have already been mentioned, 30 years of gigging has taught me:

"Proper prior preparation prevents poor performance".

So do you have your:
Drums
Throne
Cymbals
Stands and or rack
Stick bag with sticks
Gaffa
Spares
Set list
Car keys
Fuel or gas

(sounds crazy to even mention this it seems, until you're on an out of your home towner and someone else took your gear from their place and when you got there, guess what, your cymbals and throne are missing and yes that has happened to me!)

Do yourself a favour, if it's what you need to do, do a check list as you pack your gear. Before and after the gig!

Another helpful one,
Once a year, at least, I totally, and I mean totally strip my kit.
All heads come off and take the built up grunge out of between the heads and the rims. While the heads are off check the tightness of all the screws for the tension rod casings and mounts or whatever. If you have never done this you may be surprised at how loose some have become.
Give the shells a thourough clean up rather than the usual wipe over.
Don't forget little things like the key that holds your beater on your kick pedal at the height you like it. Try not to over tighten anything! Undoable isn't good. Learn those little things that always seem to become a problem maintenance wise and how to deal with them.

You already love your drums, love them a bit more and they will repay you with great sound and solid reliability!
