I really gotta spread some rep

A 22" 2oo2 ride "should" cost about 526 US dollars. This particular shop has a 57 percent discount. There is no need to work the selling price as I dont think a shop in the world would give you the recommended price and make you work out what they are gonna sell it at with their discount. So in reality you go to the shop and you find the cymbal that you want base your custom order on. If you wanted to get a 22" china you would need to find how much a 22" 2oo2 would cost (your base price). Armed with this price you load it calculator and do some target practice. To find the surcharge you need to divide the base price by 100 and multiply it by 30. Now, the discount the shop has needs to be applied to the surcharge. In this case the discount is 57% off. So you divide the answer you got above by 100 and multiply by 43 The reason its 43 is because you have the full price (100%) minus the discount (57%) which gives you 43%. Now you have the base price for your custom order and the surcharge with the discount applied. Now just add them. Just for the peeps who dont love maths like Roman or I would. Peace out. |

Yes, Tre is right. Really, for any drummer, it shouldnt be this hard, and really it's not. However, the point is (for anyone doing any custom ordering, like I have, 20 cymbals in the past 3 months alone!), you are NOT paying MSRP (full price) PLUS 30%. That would be a very costly cymbal, and no man on earth would pay that. Bottom line, you pay a % of that custom fee, based on what you get off MSRP. However, if you live overseas as some PDFers do, I am told they dont get much of anything off MSRP, if at all. So, in that case, it's way to costly, and I would avoid customs like the plauge. LOL.. In the end, in the US, if you find the right dealer, and sweet talk him/her, you can get a very nice deal on customs. I basically pay what anyone would pay for a normal cymbal (actually less then that even), even with the custom fees added in.
Now, maybe that will get everyone motivated to order a heap of customs, so Paiste will have no choice but to say "YES" (the magic word!)...

Drum Authority sells paistes at 55% off list, if you buy more then 1. You take that quote to any GC, and they will match, then beat it. You would end up with around 56% off, which is not bad. I simply went one step further, and then some with my dealer. I actually pay 59% off list now.

I own the GB and have compared it directly to the 2002 med as well as the 2002 thin and the plain old 2002. The GB multi has some ride properties that all the others lack althoughthe 18 is too quite to use as a ride in unmic'd rock situations. Not to bad in an acoustic setting though. The GB has the most pronouced Paiste sparkle at the end of the wash of the bunch. It is far warmer then the 2002 or the 2002 med. I'd say the 2002 thin is a hair warmer then the GB esp since is has the least amount of sparkle in the wash. While I would not describe any of these cymbals as having a "harsh" or gong-like wash. The med has the harshest finish. Here's an easy comparision chart- all opinion of course: Overall volume: 1. 2002 Med 2. 2002 3. GIant Beat 4. 2002 thin Initial attack: (Meaning immediate punch) 1. 2002 med 1. 2002 3. Giant Beat 4. 2002 Thin Complexity of finish/wash: 1. Giant Beat 2. 2002 thin 3. 2002 4. 2002 med Shimmer: 1. Giant Beat 2. 2002 med 3. 2002 4. 2002 thin Its hard to judge pitch cause the Giant beat starts as the 2nd lowest pitched of the bunch (thin being the lowest) but ends as higher pitched then the others, but again its that super pronounced Paiste sparkle speaking to you in the finish. I own the 18 and 20 GB and had compared them directly when purchasing to all of these and the 2002 wilds as well as the 20 series crashes when making my choices.
