Hey Guys. As some of you may know, I am in the market for a new high end drum set.
I will be mostly using this kit for rock but it is also important for me to get a great versatile kit. I also play jazz and I would like to be able to play a variety of genres and styles on this kit. Please help me out! I'm having trouble making up my mind because I am not able to play all of these kits in person. So please post your vote in the poll and comment on this thread. Thanks! |

Yamaha Oak. Great for jazz and rock.

seconded, although you should really play these kits and choose for yourself. that being said, an oak custom in 10x8, 12x9, 14x14, and 20x17 can cover any style of music with ease.

Buy the best kit (to your ears) you have tried or can try in person. If you're gonna drop that sort of money, why not make a trip to a large music store that's located a bit further than you have gone to? No amount of polls will give you the certainty of hearing "that" kit and knowing it's "the one".

You definitely should play them in person, get an idea on what they sound and feel like.
I proudly endorse Gretsch; I use the New Classics as a main kit. If you want to go REALLY high-end, consider Brady drums. You'll sound (and look) better than any drummer on your block.

I know..I REALLY need to play these kits live. I wish I could. I can't find the starclassic bubinga omni tune or the pearl masters premium anywhere though.
That being said. For those of you that voted for the Gretsch New Classic's: Do you think this kit is versatile enough to play rock/dance rock/jazz/funk/ect? Or is it limited to a great jazz kit. |

New classic can cover all types of music - just as all the rest on your list.
I think first you need to decide what kind of budget you have. There is a big difference between a DW Collectors and a Gretsch New Classic and so on. I think for the money the New Classic is the best for the money. Good luck.

Absolutely, 1000000% yes. And at a much lower price than the others...

To be honest, money isn't the biggest issue for me here. I'm not rich at all (I'm a college student that works at a restaurant). But this next kit I buy will pretty much be my main drum set for at least another 7 years. So I need to be very happy with it.
