Default Home Depot Hardware case?

Planning for Christmas.
Right now my son has a Masters kit with a rack and wants to ditch the rack two of the toms and go with stands.

After the first of the year my son is going to start playing out (local).
He will be needing a bunch of stuff (which I will also be asking about) for transporting and protecting his kit, but for now I need some feedback on a hardware case.

I just checked the price of the TRPX1 Trap X-1 Case and about had a cow....

Here is what he will have;
4-Pearl 900 cymbal stands
1- Pearl HH stand
1- Pearl snare stand
1-Double base pedal
1-Roc-N-Soc throne
And I am sure some other stuff I am over looking...

I just came back from Home Depot and they had a Stanley tool bin with wheels and a pull handle for $59.00.

It measures 37" long, 22'' wide and 23" deep.
More specs here
Would this hold as much and work as well as the Trap case?

Is the trap really worth $279.00?

Thanks in advance....

Great find, imo! The size sounds right. Don't know if everything's going to fit, but it probably would not in the specialty drum case either. I'm currently using a Weber BBQ soft case w/ hard plastic bottom and wheels for hardware on gigs..

The case is 37" long, it's doubtful your going to get a Hi Hat stand in there and i think the throne base as well would be an issue. Even folded they are pretty long. Once you add all those items up size wise and then consider the throne seat, i don't think it's going to work for you.

The more you tear your hardware down to multiple pieces, the longer it takes to setup and adjust and the longer it takes to tear down. And with all the loosening taking place, you are opening yourself up to losing parts.

Ultimatley, the best hardware case is the one that allows you to fold up and collapse your gear the least. This speeds setup/teardown dramatically and you will spend less time tweaking gear. But you need to take into account the size and weight of the case. For two reasons....

1. You have to be able to lift it, even if it's just to get it out of your vehicle. If you have a bad back or you are not very strong and do not have help both loading your car and unloading it. Keep that in mind.

2. If your gigging out of a small car, your options are very limited. A hatchback gives you alot more options and if you have a van or pickup, your limited only by the weight and how many friends you have to help you.

If your limitations are because of your physical ability and/or your vehicle, you might want to look into using two smaller cases vs one large one.

The nice thing about the SKB TPX1 is the features. It has lots of handles to allow you and your help to grab it and maneuver it , wheels to move it over long distances and it's big enough to hold stands still partially set up. It also has a lifetime warranty. Yes, it's not cheap but it works great and with that warranty, it will last you a long time. Messing with all sorts of cheap bins not suited for gigging will leave you frustrated and more then likley spending more money then had you done it right the first time.

You can get one now on ebay with a buy it now price of $199.99.

I have been to plenty of Lowes and Home Depots and have yet to see anything that works better. Most of the cases they sell that are durable enough are for tools and are made of metal. No good for gigging drum hardware.

seriously, cases made specificly for drum hardware are way over priced. i use a case made for golf club bags...hard plastic with wheels, fits every piece of hardware just fine. 60 bucks.

Some good points...but the tool case is only 1-2" shorter and has significantly more width and depth. My "grill" bag is only 36" long and easily takes the disassembled hi hat stand. Two more inches (SKB) won't make a difference in that respect. Same goes for the throne..something I usually take separately and assembled.
Even at 199.- plus 30.-s/h the SKB is nearly four times the $!
Now if he was flying to Europe for gigs....

The extra cost to me is worth it based on my reasons above. The warranty and the ability to setup/teardown much faster is worth it. My opinion.

Collapsing stands down to nothing and dissasembling a hi-hat stand (and the reverse) are time consuming and annoying for anyone who gigs often.

Again, just my opinions. You pay more, but you get more.

this is over 48" long. has wheels, is solid, and is less than a third of the price. 60 bucks and does the job better.

I was going to say look on eBay for a used SKB Golf case that's what I use it's the same thing as a hardware case.
But for $60.00 can't go wrong with that case

Sounds interesting. How many stands will fit in a golf case approximately?-

i fit a drum rug, 2 dw 9000 boom stands, 2 snare stands, hi-hat stand, and throne in there. it's a tight fit because of the drum rug.
